Thank you President!
A true story.
In 1973, the president of Zaire (Congo) General Mobutu Sese Seko made a three-day visit to Mauritania. Mauritania was one of the poorest countries in Africa, whose economy relies on fishing, agriculture and pasture.
During the two-day negotiation, President Mobuto discovered that Mauritania's host, Mukhtar Wald Daddah, had been locked in one of the three days of the conference. to wear (a suit). After an interview, he realized that the president did not have the money to buy the uniforms or expensive suits worn by the presidents.
When he ended his trip President Mobuto at Mauritania's more objective airport in Nouakchott, he called the special secretary for President Daddah we gave a check (check) on the payment of $ 5 million dollars (five million dollars) and a letter with the title of the most expensive sushi store worn by President Zaire in the French capital, Paris. He also stated in the letter that the president's son and his partner will take on the role and that the cost of their ticket and hotel includes that amount while in Paris.
When Mobuto left, the secretary handed the check to President Dadah, saying it was a gift he gave to Mobuto, which he planned to buy in Paris and expensive supplies at meetings and key meetings. ah. President Dadah ordered the money to be transferred to the finance minister and deposited into the treasury. Days later, President Dadah decided to raise the $ 5 million to build and equip teacher training schools in a country where poverty is rampant.
Five years later, in 1978, President Daddah learned that President Zaire is visiting neighboring Morocco. He sent a request and an invitation to a short visit to Mauritania, and we accepted it.
President Mobuto, President Mobuto while on the way from the airport to the presidency, was saying banners that read: 'THANK YOU TO ZAIRE, THANK YOU FOR THE MONEY, YOU'RE THANK YOU FOR NOW'.
Prior to the presidency, they went through a well-trained teacher training school, and many teachers passed.
President Mobuto, in astonishment, asked his counterpart: "What an honor I have received. Just an hour ago I landed at the Nouakchott airport. Unfortunately, I have no gifts."
President Dadah, with a smile, replied: "This is the most valuable gift, $ 5 million, that you gave me five years ago. We have built this school to prepare skilled educators who fight ignorance and poverty ”.
President Mobuto, in his warm embrace of President Dadah, said: "If other African leaders were like you, our continent would'nt have suffered from ignorance, poverty and setbacks."
In response, President Dadah said: "I take a paycheck from the treasury, and the gift belongs to the people of Mauritania. To build beautiful homes will not help me while my people live in extreme poverty. ”
That event has gone into history. May God have mercy on President Mukhtar Wald Daddah, who died in 2003, living in honor and dignity. He left a three-room house.
